1) The U.S. can win their group. Group C is made up of U.S.A., England, Algeria and Slovenia. Algeria and Slovenia aren’t making it past the first round as far as I’m concerned, so it’s a matter of who finishes #1 and #2 in this group between the colonizer and its former colony. And just like in the 1700′s, I think the colony wins.
2) U.S. vs. England is on a Saturday at 2:30 PM. Erwin will be at a bar at that time watching the game, no doubt.
3) Group G is the Group of Death: Brazil, Ivory Coast, Portugal and North Korea. North Korea is the easy pick to not make the Group of Sixteen. The other 3 teams – you have two traditional powerhouses in Brazil and Portugal, and the current African superpower in the Ivory Coast. Portugal’s gonna be the odd team out, methinks.
4) South Africa might be the first host team ever to not make it to the Round of Sixteen. France and Mexico should be the favorites to be top 2 in that group.
5) I hope Pato gets the call to represent Brazil in 2010, as he is one of the players I would really like to see.
6) 6 months away, I think Spain or Brazil will win it.
7) Groups D, F, and H suck. Germany, Italy and Spain should all cruise past the first round.
8) All the colonizers vs. colony matchups!: England-US, Portugal-Brazil, Spain-Honduras….
9) June 2010 can’t come soon enough.
