Different year, same intro:
Here’s the list of movies I want to catch this summer. In my younger days, I would have gone ahead and watched all these movies in the theater, and on opening night more often than not too.
Those days are long gone, unfortunately, and I’ll be lucky if I see a third to a half of the movies on this list. For the purpose of this post, I’ll list the movies by release date, and give them a number ranking after each one. These number rankings mean:
1 – Not missing watching this in the theater, come hell or high water. And If I could help it, on opening night also.
2 – Will try to watch this in the theater, but not necessarily on opening night though. I might just as easily end up watching it on DVD when it is released then.
3 – It won’t kill me if I end up not watching this in the theater, but will try to eventually watch it on DVD.
Here we go:
May 7:
Iron Man 2 – 1: The reviews have been so-so. But it gets the benefit of the geek doubt. And plus – War Machine!!!!!
May 14:
Robin Hood – 3: It’s like Gladiator: Men In Tights. The original premise of the movie – it was going to be called Nottingham, and it would have been from the point of view of the Sheriff of Nottingham – sounded a lot more interesting.
May 21:
Shrek Forever After – 3: I haven’t even seen Shrek 3. And I never found the Shrek franchise as engrossing as others.
May 28:
Prince of Persia: The Sand of Time – 3: The games are awesome; the movie doesn’t do anything for me. And plus, Jake Gyllenhaal bugs me for some reason. Not as much as Maggie, but still.
Survival of the Dead – 2 or 3: It’s a George Romero Zombie movie. ‘Nuff said.
June 11:
The A-Team – 1: My favorite TV show growing up was the A-Team. I usually cringe at TV to movie adaptations, but I kinda have a good feeling about this one. And don’t you just love it when a plan comes together?
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Undead – 3: It sounds just weird and silly enough to appeal to my weird and silly tastes.
June 18:
Jonah Hex – 2 or 3: I like Josh Brolin, and I like the Jonah Hex character in the funny books as well. And plus – Megan Fox. Yowza.
Toy Story 3 – 1: The latest installment to the franchise that started it all for Pixar. How can you not want to see this? And plus, Pixar’s never had a bad movie. EVER.
June 25:
Knight and Day – 3: Don’t ask me why, but I kinda want to see this.
July 2:
The Last Airbender – 3: I like the Nick cartoon it was based on, but it’s still kinda annoying having a white kid play Ang. Like, c’mon.
July 9:
Predators – 2: Robert Rodriguez wrote the screenplay, and if there’s one thing he can do, it’s write great violent stuff.
July 16:
Inception – 1: The latest from Christopher Nolan. And plus, doesn’t the premise just sound great?
July 23:
Salt – 1: Sounds like a female Jason Bourne; that was a compliment by the way.
August 13:
The Expendables – 1: A good old fashioned 80′s action flick. Sign me up.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World – 1: I love the comic book this was based on, and if there’s a role out there that’s perfect for Michael Cera (besides George Michael Bluth – please please please let’s get that Arrested Development movie going), it’s Scott Pilgrim.
